When most think of project success they think that there are 2 key project criteria.  Did it complete on time? and did it complete within budget?

At Tullett, we believe that there’s a third criteria and that is did the project deliver its benefits?

Throughout project delivery, we continuously validate that the business case is still relevant and will deliver the expected benefits.  

We know that circumstances can change, resulting in projects no longer being able to deliver their benefits.  Covid-19 was a great example that things can change throughout the project lifecycle.  Most thought there were 2 options here.  Scrap the project and write off the money invested this far or continue with the project and hope that they will be able to deliver the benefits as they’ve got a lot invested.

At Tullett, we know there was a third option.  Pause the project for a strategic rethink to assess whether the benefits are still attainable albeit with some changes to the project.
